ARTIST STATEMENT

What can be made by hand, by what’s at hand, is important to me.

Ideas for my work are tightly bound in the physical performance of making them. My involvement with aesthetics evolving through observation and exploration across decades.

I investigate themes of nature and human spirit through both functional and purely cerebral works.  Underlying principles of mathematics and physics drive both form and function.

I consider all my works to be sculptural pieces. When creating a work of art, my focus is how it emotionally and intellectually engages the viewer.

Through the creative process I endeavour to connect spirit to place while furthering and upholding a long tradition of smithing.
